Played in session 3 of our new Traveller campaign on Friday and it was the best one so far! In my previous post I talked about some of my trouble as well as some utilities I was making. There was a heavy feeling rules load I'd felt I was taking on and not yet having a blast with. Well, I now have Javascript programs to handle all of the biggest pains I was having. A script to calculate Passengers, Freight, Mail, and also utilities to calculate Trade Codes and Time/Distance stuff. I basically didn't need any of the scripts in this session though. It was a good ol' adventure that involved bringing a new player on board, some shopping, a passenger who wanted our help in finding something stolen from them, etc. I think what made it really work is that all of the players got to be involved, and the session seemed to naturally have the characters mostly up to their own things and cooperating to make things happen. By that, I mean sometimes characters end up in a pack and wander around together, and that'll seem fictionally a little weird. In this session we had a dinner, someone back on the ship, some folks off to explore the shops while others returned to ship, some people sluething on the street while others took other angles and so on. It was good. I also feel like I managed to engage some players who didn't get as engaged in the previous 2 sessions, and was working with the GM while having a lot of fun getting up to RP I enjoy.
Given everyone's schedule, it's looking like I might be up to the plate to run the next session for real. We'll see how this pans out. The events of last session will keep our characters in-system for a bit more, and so I'm thinking the session needs to be in Jada (system of the previous adventure), with my character and the characters of players who won't be around occupied by various preparations we are up to. I've got a few days to work something out. You can see my in-character journal, updated to the last session, as well as the utilities I've coded up in the Traveller section of the site here.
Until next time.
